The pegs are designed for ages 12 months and older — children who are past the primary mouthing stage. The long, slim shape (6 mm diameter, 5 cm length) sits at the borderline of small-parts guidance and is not intended as a teether. The red paint is water-based and lead-free. Designed for counting and fine-motor play with adult supervision, not oral exploration.
How many pegs do I actually get?
The default pack ships with 20 red wooden pegs — enough to fully fill any single board (1 through 10) twice over. A 10-peg variant ships one complete set; the 55-peg variant fills all ten boards simultaneously (1+2+…+10 = 55 pegs). The variant you choose appears on the listing chooser — look for "10 pegs / 20 pegs / 55 pegs" before adding to cart. The 20-peg pack is the most popular choice.
Will my child outgrow this quickly?
No — this is a four-year toy. A 12–18 month-old uses board 1 with one peg; by 24 months, they're filling boards 1–5 independently; by 36 months, they sequence all ten boards in numeric order; by 4 years, they're using the boards for early addition (board 2 + board 3 = 5 pegs).
